Exhaust grilles and exhaust units to fight pollution sources


Ventilation allows evacuation of pollutants and prevents the accumulation of humidity in a building, which in the long term could lead to the growth of mould or damage to the structure of the building. It would therefore seem essential to install a ventilation system (natural or mechanical) that renews the air by the use of ventilation terminals: air inlets, ventilation grilles in the case of natural ventilation and exhaust units in the case of mechanical extract ventilation.


What is the difference between a ventilation grille and an exhaust unit?

The term ventilation or extraction grille is used in natural or hybrid ventilation. The grille has large openings permitting the passage of air at low pressure.

The term ventilation or exhaust unit is used for Mechanical Extract Ventilation, MEV. The air being mechanically evacuated by a fan, the pressures used are higher than in natural ventilation.

These terminals are connected to smoke ducts and allow the evacuation of the stale air. They are placed in the kitchen, bathroom and toilet.


What types of grilles and units does Aereco offer?

Aereco offers two types of ventilation grilles and units: humidity-controlled and fixed.

Humidity-controlled ventilation terminals adjust air flow according to the relative level of ambient humidity. The greater the humidity in the room, for example during a shower, the more the shutters will be open to evacuate the stale air.

The humidity sensor is made of polyamide fabric strips that extend when humidity in the air increases and shorten when the air dries. This fabric activates the shutter that modulates that section of passage to allow more or less air trough.

This technology, applied to ventilation grilles and exhaust units, adapts the air flow to the actual need of the home, reducing heat loss and optimising the electrical consumption of the fans. Humidity helps ensure good air quality by acting as an indicator of ambient air pollution.

Fixed grilles have the same form as humidity-controlled grilles with the difference that they do not have a humidity-sensitive actuator. The same applies to the exhaust units.
According to the exhaust unit it is possible to activate a peak flow using a cord, a switch, a remote control or sensors like presence detector, CO2 sensor and VOC sensor.


How is a ventilation grille installed?

A ventilation grille is placed at the top of the wall or on the ceiling where hot stale air propagates.

The ventilation grilles are optimised for low pressures by using large openings. They are integrated on shunt and masonry ducts.

An exhaust unit can be connected to several types of ducts: cylindrical, metallic, plastic, semi-rigid…


Is there any maintenance to be performed?

The humidity sensor does not require maintenance.

It is advisable to regularly clean the front panel of the ventilation grille or exhaust unit. The dust-loaded air is deposited on the front face and may eventually clog the extraction terminal, the duct and the fan, causing a decrease in energy-saving performance.
